The ED 551A Electronic Display unit functions as a Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI), Attitude Director Indicator (ADI) or Multi Function Display (MFD) used with the EFS-50 system. When the ED 551A is used as an ADI an inclinometer is mounted on the front panel. The high resolution CRT displays converted X-Y axis deflection signals as well as red, green, and blue video signals from the SG-465.
Version 066-03137-3200 is a black EDU with 28VDC lighting and HIRF/lightning protection.

- Receives information from aircraft attitude, navigation, guidance, and weather radar system sources
- 5" x 5" color CRT electronic display
- Converts X/Y axis deflections signals & red-green-blue video signals form the Symbol Generator
- May be used as an EHSI, EADI or MFD
- When used as an EADI, an inclinometer is mounted on the front panel
- Weather radar can also be displayed on either the EHSI or MFD
- Unit has no front panel controls, typically used with the CP-467 control panel
- Display receives power directly from the aircraft, does not draw current from the Symbol Generator
- Contains an internal fan blower
- An airflow sensor within the display unit will generate a fault indication on the display unit if insufficient airflow is detected
